Auburn, NY - District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced that WINDSOR COLEMAN, 35, of Massapequa, New York, was found guilty following a three-day jury trial, of two charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Class D Violent Felonies, for causing physical injury to two correction officers while intentionally preventing them from performing their lawful duties.
After hearing testimony and reviewing evidence, including photographs, video footage and medical records, the jury concluded that on August 10, 2022, while at the Auburn Correctional Facility in the City of Auburn, COLEMAN caused physical injury to two different Correction Officers by striking them both in the head and cutting the neck of one of them. Both officers were treated for their injuries at the Auburn Community Hospital Emergency Room.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Amanda Raub and Special Counsel to the District Attorney Mark Moody.
For each charge, COLEMAN faces a minimum determinate state prison sentence of three years and a maximum determinate state prison sentence of seven years with five years of post-release supervision. He is scheduled to be sentenced before the Honorable Jon E. Budelmann on November 12, 2024. COLEMAN is currently serving an unrelated state prison sentence at Attica Correctional Facility. The sentence on the assault charges will run consecutively to his current, unrelated prison sentence.
“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict and commend them for the time and consideration they gave listening to and reviewing the evidence throughout the trial. The verdict sends a clear message that this community does not tolerate violence against officers serving in our correctional facilities.” District Attorney Grome Antonacci commented.
