Auburn, NY - Acting District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced today that Michael THORN, 36, (DOB 7/1/1986), of 44 Bradford Street, Auburn, was sentenced to a nine-year determinate term of imprisonment with ten years of Post-Release Supervision. The defendant had previously pled guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child and was sentenced today in Cayuga County Court before the Hon. Thomas G. Leone. Senior ADA Heather De Stefano prosecuted the case.
The investigation revealed that THORN had sexually assaulted the minor child for a period of five years. The abuse started when the victim was seven years old. During sentencing, a victim impact statement written by the minor child was read in Court. In that statement, the minor child detailed years of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of the defendant. Her statement ended with: “While I wouldn’t wish this upon anybody, this has made me into an incredibly strong and confident young lady…My abuse is something that happened to me, but it does not define me.”
Acting DA Brittany Grome Antonacci commented: “Through her bravery during the investigation and court proceedings, this young victim has held her abuser accountable to answer for his crimes. THORN will now serve a lengthy prison sentence for his disturbing and predatory actions. We hope that this lengthy prison sentence will offer some form of closure and justice for both the victim and our community.”
