Auburn, NY - District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced today that PAUL BOVEE, 37, of Syracuse, New York, pled guilty on December 16, 2024 before the Honorable Thomas G. Leone, to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, in violation of Penal Law Sections 110/220.16[12], a class C felony. He faces a five (5) year determinate prison sentence
followed by one and a half years of post-release supervision, as a second felony offender. The sentence will run consecutive to a sentence Bovee is currently serving.
On May 9, 2024, BOVEE was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation in the City of Auburn. The defendant possessed a backpack with him in the vehicle. In the backpack, police discovered over an ounce of cocaine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 13, 2025.
SERAPHIN MONIZ, 30, of Auburn, NY pled guilty on December 19, 2024, before the Honorable
Thomas G. Leone to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, in violation of Penal Law Section 220.16(1), a class B felony, and Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, in violation of Penal Law Sections 110/120.05(3), a class E felony. He faces an aggregate determinate term of seven (7) years of imprisonment followed by three (3) years post-release supervision as a second
felony offender.
On May 6, 2024, members of the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on
MONIZ’S residence and located approximately 6 ounces of cocaine. A Cayuga County Grand Jury subsequently issued a sealed indictment on that case against MONIZ in September of 2024. On October 12, 2024, Auburn police arrested MONIZ on the sealed indictment. During that arrest, an Auburn Police officer suffered lacerations to his right arm and knee caused when MONIZ attempted to flee from police.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 27, 2025.
Both cases were prosecuted by Counsel to the District Attorney Mark Moody.
